Collection includes 21 volumes of newspaper clippings, newspaper photographs, magazine/journal articles, transcripts of documents, correspondence, hand-drawn sketches, postcards, ship plans, etc. about steamship lines and steamships. Volumes are organized according to geographic location (and type of steamship. Collection includes information about transatlantic, transpacific, and coastwise steamboats. It is not known who organized or completed the collection after Mr. Bradlee's death. Originally stored in non-archival looseleaf notebooks, the pages have been removed and placed in acid free folders.

The Alaska Steamship Company, incorporated in 1894, shipped freight and passengers between Seattle and southeast Alaska, ca. 1901-1950. In 1953 the company expanded into container service, but due to increased fuel and insurance costs, strong competition from other types of container vessels such as barges and tugboats, and union demands, the Alaska Steamship Company ceased operations in 1971.
